These trays inside your teeth mould kit are mouldable. Please follow the instructions below on how to use them.
Choose the correct impression tray for either your upper or lower impressions. Stand in front of a mirror.
💡 Pro Tips:
Open one set of putty — one purple and one white. Ensure your hands are clean to prevent dust or dirt from contaminating the putty.
💡 Pro Tips:
Use your fingers to mix the impression material into a uniform colour which should be purple. It is best to do this within 45 seconds or less.
💡 Pro Tips:
Roll the mixed putty into the shape of a log. Lay the log in the upper/lower tray in a 'U' shape that mimics the shape of your teeth. Do not smash down. The log should go all the way to the back of the tray.
💡 Pro Tips:
Place the tray in your mouth so your teeth are positioned over the centre of the putty log. For the upper tray, press the tray straight up with your thumbs for around 2 minutes without moving. For the lower tray, use your index fingers instead.
💡 Pro Tips:
Keep perfectly still while the putty sets. Don't talk, swallow excessively, or move your jaw. The putty needs to capture an exact imprint of your teeth and gums.
💡 Pro Tips:
Open your mouth and pull the tray straight down (for upper) or up (for lower) to remove it.
💡 Pro Tips:
Repeat the procedure with the other lower or upper tray. Take your time – it's better to get it right than to rush.
💡 Pro Tips:
When finished with the impressions, please send a photo of them with your order number to Photo@retainersathome.co.uk to verify them before posting them back to us. Please use the subject line 'photo' and your order number.
💡 Pro Tips:
If you find the instructions tricky, we're here to help. Retainers at Home offers a video call consultation to guide you through taking your own teeth impressions with our home kits. This service is unique because we want to help everyone keep smiling.
Email hello@retainersathome.co.uk with your order number and "Video Call" in the subject line to schedule a session.
Work in a cooler room. Cold temperatures slow the setting time. You can also briefly chill the putty in the fridge (not freezer) for a few minutes before mixing.
Don't worry! Each kit includes an extra set of putty, so you can try again if your first attempt isn't quite right. Follow the instructions carefully and use our video guide if needed.
Push the tray further back before biting down. The tray should cover all your teeth, including your wisdom teeth if you have them.
Try breathing through your nose and focusing on a point in front of you. You can also try tilting your head slightly forward.
If your impressions are not approved, we will provide feedback and suggestions on how to improve them. We're committed to helping you get it right to receive the best possible retainers.
If you're unsure about anything or your impressions don't look quite right, don't worry! Our friendly team is here to help. Send us photos of your impressions and we'll let you know if they're good to go.
